About Bennett Oates
Bennett Oates was a British artist who was born in London in 1928, he studied at Wimbledon College of Art and at the age of fifteen his first flower painting was accepted at the Royal Academy. He then went on to win a scholarship to the Royal College of Art. Oates had always been interested in painting and throughout his career experimented with portraiture, landscape and animal paintings which can now be found in numerous private collections, it was his flower paintings, however, that built his reputation. Oates is now acknowledged as one of the finest artists who has worked in this style, his technique is similar to that of Dutch painters, his strong use of colours are used in conjunction with white and pastel shades that produce the unique quality of his paintings. We were lucky enough to display Oates' works during our Still Life Exhibition between the 12th October and the 9th November 2018.
